Psalm 119:105 says that God’s word is “a lamp to my feet and a light to my path”. I love that. For one thing it very clearly implies that I have a path; I have a purpose and a reason for being. Praise God! Secondly, it tells me that God has given me a way to see where I am going; a light in the form of His word.
God’s word is a beautiful thing. It’s living and active. It has the ability to lead us, and guide us, and direct us along the good path that God has set before us. And on that good path – the path that God has made for us – He has provided all that we need through grace. He’s provided the relationships, the health, the security, the money, and the wisdom. It’s all ours for the claiming… but it’s only found on that good path.
How do we stay on that path? By watching where we’re going, and that’s not something we’re able to do in the dark. Have you ever tried to walk from one point to another in complete darkness? It’s just about impossible to walk straight. Ever watched people swimming without goggles? They keep their eyes closed and end up zigzagging all over the place.
We need to see where we are going and in order to do that, we need the light of His word. As believers we really have no excuse. God has provided the light for us. All we need to do is to get to know His will for our lives, get to know Him through His Word.
If the word of God is a daunting thing to you, just simply remember having a relationship with His Word is having a relationship with Him. While we may indeed study the Word, see the Word as alive! See it as it is. The Word is God! There are so many resources available to our generation: bible studies, podcasts, sermons online, audio bibles, and study bibles, and the list goes on. Decide to embrace God by embracing God’s Word this year and watch how it lights up your path. You’ll see that your life will be blessed beyond measure.
