Isaiah 64:4 is a beautiful verse which tells us that we serve a God who acts on our behalf. It’s a stunning, humbling thought: The God of the universe, the Creator of heaven and earth, the King upon the throne, acts on behalf of those who wait for Him.
Waiting on God is something we’ve explored a lot over the past few weeks and this hidden gem in the book of Isaiah is further encouragement to do exactly that, but what does it mean that God acts on our behalf when we wait for Him?
Perhaps one of the greatest breakthroughs we can expect is the changes within us.
When I wait for the Lord, I become more obedient. The Spirit empowers me to walk in His ways.
I become more patient. Patience is simply confidence and expectation that His word is true. Remember that God never promised us a battle-free life, but He has promised us a victorious one!
The effect of letting go and trusting in Who I know God is, is that I experience a whole lot more joy as well.
I gain direction. When I wait for Him, I hear from Him!
I gain understanding. I’m less in a rush to do and more set on trusting His Word from being in His Presence.
Finally, I grow in faith.
Waiting for the Lord requires discipline. In this fast-paced, high-demand world of ours, everything around us demands that we act, that we perform, that we solve, that we provide an answer. Not God though. He simply invites us to wait for Him, promising that He will act on our behalf when we do.
Since ancient times no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides you, who acts on behalf of those who wait for him.
